NEVADA COUNTY — PG&E is upgrading electric equipment to improve reliability for customers in Nevada County. The upgrades are under way throughout the Lake Wildwood community and will benefit about 3,400 customers in the area.
“This work to upgrade our power lines should result in fewer power outages and provide a safety benefit to the local community,” said Andy Navarrette, manager of PG&E’s Sierra Division. “We understand that any time we complete projects it affects our customers and we appreciate their understanding as we work to improve our electric system.”
The nearly $700,000 project to upgrade overhead power lines will be completed by the end of December, depending on safe weather conditions. Crews will replace 12 poles, upgrade power lines, prune trees and install new equipment to prevent animal contact with electrical lines. Infrared technology will also be used to proactively identify any potential trouble spots on electrical lines so they can be repaired or replaced before they fail.
To ensure the safety of customers, the public and employees, a temporary service interruption might be necessary. Any impacted customers will be notified in advance of planned outages.
Traffic might be routed around work areas. Although some driveways might be occasionally affected, crews can provide access within a few minutes of customer’s request. However, please plan ahead for this minor delay if crews are working outside your home or business.
PG&E continues to make significant progress in electric reliability that benefits customers throughout its service area. In 2013, the average duration of a service interruption for a PG&E customer fell to an all-time low, and customers also experienced the fewest service interruptions in company history. Customers have seen a 40 percent improvement in the average duration of service disruptions and a 27 percent improvement in the number of customer interruptions since 2006.
